A Note from Mary...
As a seasoned educator, I had no idea just how competitive I was until the year I began coaching girls' Volleyball and Basketball. I found the journey to winning championships to be profoundly life altering and surprisingly reflective of what I really had been striving for in my classroom all along: a Win with, and for, every single student.
While it's terrific fun to win, the pathway of practicing the fundamentals every single day to achieve the greater score, (and/or academic productivity in the classroom) is, at least in my opinion, ultimately what matters most.
Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of this in our drive to win the game of life. But the most successful coaches, and you know who they are, make it a point to grow the fundamentals of social-emotional and academic competency in whatever game is in play, to develop individual and team confidence all season long.
I think Jack's tribute to Coaches in every conceivable playing field of life and education, says it all... We welcome you to forward it on to those coaches you know who will appreciate you thinking of them. |

| Note from Jack: Everyone who follows sports has heard such names as Lombardi and Wooden. Coaching legends, they became household names. But there were other coaches like Roy Bensted, Joe Ramunno, Bob Schlatter, Ed Gerber and John Barnes... coaches I have known who turned their players into legends. They are legends of example, determination and courage. How many victories have been achieved in a science lab, sales meeting, battlefield, classroom, court room and in life itself because of lessons learned on the field, court, pool or gymnasium from someone who was simply called "coach?" |

I AM A COACH

I am a coach. I have spent my life educating your children to play in such a manner that, no matter what the score, they leave the game victorious.
It is my sincere prayer that my young charges will grow into honorable adults who will:
BLOCK cruelty whenever they find it,
TACKLE every positive opportunity with enthusiasm,
STRIKE OUT against corruption and falsehood when they discover it,
PASS appreciation and respect to every human being,
SCORE with creative ideas that come their way,
RUN to the daylight of building a better world.
And when their season is over, and the equipment has come off for the final time, and the uniform is relegated to storage in the field house, may they never forget that... Continue
